Aerogel is an ultra-lightweight material made up of 99% air, known for its exceptional insulation properties. It's the lightest solid in the world and has been used by NASA in space missions to capture space dust and insulate spacecraft due to its ability to withstand extreme temperatures. At Graphene-X, we’ve harnessed this advanced material in our Weather Adaptive Insulation™ (W.A.I.™), where aerogel-filled tubes expand and contract based on temperature, providing dynamic thermal regulation to keep you comfortable in any weather.
The AeroGraph Puffer Jacket’s Weather Adaptive Insulation™ acts like a living system, adjusting to temperature changes. In freezing conditions, air molecules contract, inflating the aerogel tubes to create an extra insulating layer. In milder climates, the opposite occurs. This real-time adaptation allows the jacket to perform across a wide temperature range, ensuring consistent comfort without the need for extra layers, making it ideal for diverse environments.
The main objective was to excel at the weight/warmth ratio in an extremely long range of action -- our testing went from -20°C (-4°F) to +20°C( 68°F). With deflated tubes the AeroGraph's warming capacity would be in line with a FP 650 down jacket, while with inflated tubes it would be in line with a FP 900 down jacket. Now, what really sets the difference here is not only have 2 completely different jackets in one in terms of their warming capability but also that normally on a down jacket with 900+ fill power you would need between 250-300 grams of down, here we are achieving the same results with only 160 grams of graphene-integrated fill.
